The second-hand marketplace Members Express Displeasure Over Sizing Changes
Members of the platform have expressed outrage due to a modification that led to items being listed as the wrong size.
The second-hand shopping app has revised its size classifications for women's and children's garments failing to inform all users about the change.
Social Media Backlash
Countless users and merchants have taken to social media saying Vinted listings now show an altered size classification versus the original listing due to the recalibration.
Vinted explained the new system was more in line with comparable marketplaces.
The platform has recommended to examine their items and update the measurements by hand where appropriate, causing user dissatisfaction.
Sizing System Modifications
Before the change, the measurements included a single numeric size and a letter, for instance S/8 or M/10.
The new system has a letter and a range such as S/UK 8-10.
For certain items, the size labels have been reassigned - like an L measurement was previously a 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18.
User Accounts
A fashion influencer, who produces content about larger sizing, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".
"Few clothing companies classify XL as 20-22," as the platform currently indicates.
A different member, based in Glasgow, said garments she listed on Vinted with size 14 labels were showing in the marketplace as size 20–22.
"Should someone sized 20-22 purchase these they're going to be very disappointed," she said.
Required Changes
A different user, from Derby, explained she became annoyed because the modification necessitated personal updates the measurements for "each individual item".
"For me this is particularly frustrating, as I'm chronically ill and selling on Vinted has been paramount after experiencing income reduction," she explained.
Platform Context
The platform boasts over 100 million shoppers, including 18 million in the UK.
It has emerged as a preferred choice versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This isn't the first time when a surprising modification on the platform has faced criticism: previously, the platform withdrew an update regarding delivery choices after backlash from users.
