2K Brings Onboard Apex Legends Developer to Revitalize Troubled Hero Shooter Ambitious Title

2K Games has appointed Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to lead the development team at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the anticipated over-the-shoulder roguelike extraction-shooter known as Project Ethos.

Management Change Follows Poor Reception

Brinkman assumes the role of studio head at the development studio following the dismissal of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to the game's underwhelming initial reveal last fall.

On Wednesday, 2K president David Ismailer informed team members about this organizational change through an internal memo, which emphasized that early feedback sessions had indicated the requirement for a more defined game identity.

Ismailer expressed that the developers is now refining the project with a renewed focus, aiming to better meet player expectations.

A Pattern of Strategic Hires

This announcement echoes a similar step taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they hired an industry veteran from Blizzard to contribute to the beloved franchise development group.

Here is the full content from the president's communication:
